Indianapolis, colloquially known as Indy, is the state capital and most-populous city of the U.S. state of Indiana and the seat of Marion County. Indianapolis, the capital city of Indiana, sits at the center of the state. It is also the seat of Marion County.

It lies on the White River at its confluence with Fall Creek, near the centre of the state. The city is built on a level plain surrounded by low, gently sloping hills. It is a planned municipality, its layout resembling that of Washington, D.C., with radiating streets that converge on Monument Circle at the city centre.

The Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument
Monument Circle - Surrounding the iconic 284-foot-tall Soldiers and Sailors Monumentm, offers striking views from its observation deck. It serves as the base for what Indianapolis claims to be home to the world’s largest Christmas tree, a title the city has held since 1962. The tree sports 52 strands of garland and nearly 5,000 lights in the display known as the Circle of Lights.
